Abu al-Hasan 'Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Jabir al-Baladhuri (d. 892 CE / 279 AH) was a 9th-century Persian historian of high standing. A prominent figure in the court of the Abbasid caliph al-Mutawakkil in Baghdad, he traveled widely across Syria and Iraq, dedicatedly collecting oral traditions and written reports. His nickname, al-Baladhuri, is derived from the psychoactive drug baladhur , which he allegedly consumed, and to which his death is sometimes attributed.
