The "Disco" reference harkens back to the late 1970s and 1980s, the golden era of Tamil film music composers like Ilaiyaraaja and Bappi Lahiri (who also worked in Tamil). Songs like "Raja Rajathi Rajan" from Agni Natchathiram or the synth-heavy beats of Naan Sigappu Manithan defined this era.

Raghav had the rhythm of the docks in his bones. Every morning he’d race dawn across the quay, barefoot on salt-warmed planks, a battered lunch tin in one hand and a ticket stub to the old cinema folded in the other. The tickets were currency of a different kind — promises of escape, of a world where music could make everything lighter.
