By the time the credits rolled, the city had been saved, the timeline made whole-ish, and a melancholy peace had settled over the protagonists. J, older by the wisdom gained through his travels, and K, steady as ever though unknowingly spared, walked into a dawn that smelled faintly of gasoline and possibility. The neon that had cut through the midnight now softened in the morning light.

Is it perfect? No. The plot has a few holes typical of time-travel movies, and the absence of Rip Torn’s Zed is felt. However, Men in Black 3 succeeds where it counts. It reminds us why we fell in love with this world in the first place: it’s about the chemistry between two guys in suits, fighting the scum of the universe. Men in Black 3 -2012-

The film opens by immediately establishing a grounded change of pace. The film handles the era's social climate with a light but sharp touch. A sequence where J is pulled over by two racist NYPD officers simply for driving a nice car uses comedy to acknowledge the reality of being a Black man in 1969 without derailing the film's brisk pace.
